The Kickin Chicken

Tonight we ate at The Kickin Chicken in Summerville. This was our first time there and it opened in 2005. The reason we ventured there was the kids meals are $.99 every day, all day. Now with three kids this is a great deal. They offer grilled cheese on a pita, pizza on a pita, nachos or chicken fingers and they come with a drink. Adults can order anything it does not affect the kids meal price. The food is excellent, the service was great and the atmosphere is very pleasant. The do have a bar and an outside patio. The restaurant is non smoking. There are several locations in the Tri-County area so if you want a good meal that is reasonably priced go try them.

Here is a list of Restaurants where kids eat free or for $.99. If you know of more please let me know.

Be A Tourit in Your Town

Just to let you all know that different cities have a pass to Be A Touris in Your Own Town. These tickets allow you to visit your local attractions in the month of January for one price. Charleston, SC allows access to all the Plantations, the Yorktown, For Sumter and all the State Parks. You also get discount meals at the restaurants in the area. Check out the website for your town or ours.

Holiday Festival of Lights

Every Christmas we head to James Island County Park for the Holiday Festival of Lights. This is a drive thru event that has millions of lights in the form of different holiday themes, Low Country favorites and nursery rhymes. My favorite is the Weight Watcher display where Rudolph is measuring the chimney opening with Santa watching him. The kids roast marshmallows at Santa's Village, ride the carousel and we all ride the train. The event runs until January 4th so if you are in the Tri-County area don't miss this great family festival.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Feliz Navidad, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year! I hope you all have a great holiday. We are enjoying a quiet night at home baking cookies after experiencing the hordes of happy, last minute shoppers at Northwoods Mall. The line for Santa was unbelievable. Luckily he was in a jolly good mood. The sales where great and the kids loved the Dollar Store for gifts for us. They are so generous. LOL. The only one who will have surprises under our tree will be our dogs. LOL.

Can We Say Wii!

I don't know about y'all but my children had wanted the Wii last Christmas but had not said one word about it this year until this week. I would have brought it last year but it was impossible to find. Now earlier this year and even this month, it was available, until now. Now that my kids have decided they want one there is none to be found. The Walmart sales clerk was real helpful letting me know that there will be plenty after Christmas. Well DUH! So I guess Santa is writing my kids an IOU. It will not be there first IOU. Two years ago they got the IOU for the Nintendo DS. Once again they decided they wanted it the week before Christmas, no such luck finding it. So the day after Christmas Best Buy had gotten them back in and they cashed in there IOU. This year it will probably be a week or more before that IOU gets cashed in but the wait will be worth it. HOPEFULLY! In the meantime, should I buy them any games for this Wii or wait? How do you think they will feel opening games to a system they do not have? Or should there be no gifts under the tree but the note? Oh the Christmas season and the joys of shopping. LOL.

Christmas Parade

Sunday was our wonderful Christmas Parades in Downtown Summerville and Mount Pleasant. I love these events. The excitement of the kids, the parade attendees and watchers and the vendors selling stuff. The Summerville Parade began at 2pm and we arrived at 1pm. Got our same spot as years gone by and this year we remembered the chairs. LOL. The children were given cookies by a local church and we even remembered the cooler. No walking to McD's this year, good thing since it is closed at this time for rebuilding. The warning of the parade starting is a canyon being fired. Then the excitement begins. The first out are our wonderful men in blue on bikes. They did a great job. Next we have all our wonderful town people including the Mayor in convertibles. Next is the school bands then the floats begin. The boy scouts are giving out candy, the reason my kids attend, LOL, pencils are given by schools and then we have the "fight". Yes I mean fight and it was not in the parade it was my children. A nice young girl from a church float hands my middle child a skateboard toy, u know one of those tech dek toys, well my oldest freaks out trying to steal it from him. Thus the fighting begins we are talking punching, kicking and screaming. I had to jump out of my chair, grab my oldest, proceed to the empty spot way behind us and yell at him. Then I had to go back and take the toy away, boy was I really angry, I missed floats over this toy. Then my oldest begins I am mad at mom and throws every Candy Cane given him at me. Most hitting me in the face and stomach with great laughs on his part. He is 12, which is really sad. Now back to the parade, I love the News Crews and all the cool Jeeps and Golf Carts. The Confederates shot off guns in front of us, at us and behind us and I jumped every time. LOL. The end of the parade was Santa on the fire truck. Then we rush to pack up, race to the car and drive to Mount Pleasant, about 30 minutes away. This is 3:25pm. We arrive on Coleman Blvd at 3:55pm to signs stating the road closes at 4pm for the parade. Boy were we lucky. We park the car, eat at our favorite restaurant, Iacofano Deli, they sell great pizza, then we set up our chairs and waited for the big parade that is lighted. It begins at 5:45pm. There are even tailgaters at this parade. They go all out some even have RV's. The beginning of this parade is the fireworks. Yes fireworks, it is better than the Fourth of July. They lasted 25 minutes and were spectacular. Then the chorus from a school sang Christmas Songs as we waited for the parade to get to us. We are at the middle of the parade. Then the cheers that the floats are coming. This parade had 138 floats. It is two hours and terrific. The tractor trailers are decorated great, the cars had more lights on them then I had ever seen, some had generators running the lights and we had candy canes galore, none hit me Thank God. LOL. The hillbillies brought out the old cars, even Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies, was riding her rocking chair behind Jethro and his wife, LOL, they were so cool. We had bikes, dancers, gymnastic routines and some of the same ones as the Summerville Parade, but with lights on them. This parade also ends with Santa on the fire truck. So sad to see them end. I love a good parade and now we have to wait until next year, but you can bet we will be there and hopefully with the same friends as this year. Thank you to all who attended this event with us. We had a wonderful day. You know who you are.

Christmas Decorations

Well today the hubster came home early and decided to decorate our house for Christmas. Well this is no small task. Every strand has to be hung perfectly and then they get plugged into our musical Christmas box and they all flash to the music (that probably annoys the neighbors and me too sometimes. LOL.) So we trim our Charlie Brown tree out front with the pruning sheers then we threw on the net lights and hung ornaments all over it. The kids decorated the mailbox and placed the candy canes around the tree, then rode off on there bikes, just so they did not have to help anymore. Amidst the yelling at me over my stupidity, like I can read his mind, the ladder has to be a certain way for him to access the lights. Like I knew this. Then he keeps tipping the ladder like he is going to fall off scaring me to death. He then safely comes down the ladder, reaches up my top and grabs his prize for a job well done only to discover the neighbor saw it all. (my blushing) Then we can't find the plug to my musical trees. Like I know where he put it last year, but I moved it. NOT. Finally after yelling and screaming about the fact that the trees are worthless he remembers the cord is under his work desk in a box. Go Figure. Amidst all the antics of the day the job turned out great and the house looks wonderful. It definelty was worth it. Hope your decorating experience is a lot less stressful then mine. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Meeting a Wrestler

Well yesterday is a day my son, and the rest of my children, hubby included, will never forget. Thanks to Johnny's Suzuki , who had Matt Hardy, come to a signing. So off we go for a 1pm to 3pm meeting. We left at 12:15pm., it is only 10 minutes away and we know that only the first 500 are getting in the door. Silly me thinking we would arrive, wait a few minutes(at the door), meet him and go home. NOT. No instead we show up to a line that is already half way down the building and growing by the second. LOL. Must have been at least 150 people before us and another 300 after us. So now we wait. Can my kids stand still? NO. We are hitting, doing wrestling moves and whining. I threaten to leave (hubby says NO WAY) there goes that threat, more fidgeting, other kids get involved, hubster leaves for the free food(brings back none for the rest of us). So now we are on the countdown with the News Crew waiting for his arrival,WHAT, it is 1pm and he is not here! The natives are getting restless. 1:15 no show, 1:30 no show, really getting worried not coming, then the moment "I see a limo" yells some kid. Screams then the race too it. This is 1:45pm. So much chaos that they have to drive him into the service bay so he can even get out of the limo. Kids are smooched against the window to see him. Mine scream "there he is" then he is gone. Line finally begins to move slowly. I am really thinking we might not get to see him (he does have a wrestling match at 6pm at our coliseum). Finally we move, closer, closer then we are the next set of ten in the doors. (Which they lock and unlock with each group.) The doors unlock, the kids are estatic, we walk in and up to a table where he sits with a pen and ECW paper. My kids are armed with autograph books and wrestling magazines. He signs his name to there stuff and one ECW paper, a lady says get on each side of him in front of the table, for a picture, which my daughter proceeds to stand right in front of him, lady was a little annoyed when moving her, (Not my fault she is the center of our world) LOL. Hubby gets two seconds for photo, quick hand shake and we are moved out the door. YEA! The car is in site. We left the building at 2:45pm and Matt Hardy left the grounds, right at 3pm. I really felt sorry for the ones who did not get in the doors. They said later that night on the news that the limo driver got lost. But he did have time for an interview for the sports casters, which was good. Over all it was a fun, worthwhile event but we do hope we can attend the next WWE event live. It did teach me a valuable lesson that the next time I hear on the radio there is a signing somewhere I will keep it to myself, unless it is someone I want to see. LOL.

Christmas Party

Last night into early this morning we had our best Christmas Party yet. Thank you to all who came (you might remember being at it) LOL. The food was great, the company superb and the games we played terrific. The highlight of the night was the Hookah. Now if you are unfamiliar with a Hookah (it is a flavored tobacco you smoke through an eloborate water bowl) the tobacco we smoked was peach and strawberry kiwi. Yes I finally learned to inhale. Blowing bubbles is fun. Congrats to our game winners and losers. The White Elephant Christmas Exchange was our best EVER. I love my gift from Spencer's. You will be eating Jello Shots from them at New Years. Thank you to all the "T's" for the fun and excitement you provided us. We love you. I don't think any of us have laughed so hard in a good while. Though the cops came we are thankful no one rode off in cuffs, although, some of our guests would have enjoyed the ride. LOL. Looking forward to our next get together. Hoping all of your parties are as fun as ours.

The Living Christmas Story

Tonight we drove through Bethlehem. Now grant it we do not live in Israel but Bethany United Methodist Church completely transforms there parking lot into Bethlehem. They have 19 scenes including stopping at the entrance to the city and giving the exact head count for a census. We rode there bus the first time around, then we got to ride in an open wagon being pulled by a tractor. That was a wonderful experience. Getting to see everything without windows and hearing the sounds of people talking and the animals was great. This is a free event that they have done now for 12 years. The volunteers dress the part completely and do a wonderful job. They have Roman Soldiers, Villagers, The Innkeeper and the Manger Scene complete with a real "baby Jesus". I always feel sorry for the baby swaddled in blankets lying in the manger. Luckily they have lots of firepits and they do move around a lot. The bravest person in the story is the Angel who stands on a tree stand and announces the birth of Jesus to the Shepherds. That is one role I could not do. (Fear of Heights). If you ever get to attend this event, park the car, walk to the church and enjoy the ride. It is only three nights a year but worth taking the time to see. This is the event that really starts the season for me and my family. So on that note Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! The churches website is http://www.bethany-umc.com/

McDonald's Gotta Love Them

Well tonight I had the ultimate treat of going to McDonald's with my three kids and my daughters friend. Of course on the way there I am naming every other restaurant possible. LOL. I do love McDonald's it is my comfort food but once a month is all I can handle. Now my kids could eat it everyday and most of the time my one son does. So tonight we arrive at the golden arches at 6:20pm and the sign on the door reads "Lobby closing at 7pm for remodeling will resume normal hours at 5:30am." Okay now I feel rushed. So we head in to a construction site mess. They are adding the McCafe so now we can get overpriced Coffee drinks at McD's. LOL. Then we notice that the Double Cheeseburger (our favorite) is now off the dollar menu and is $1.20. Replacing it on the value menu is a mcDouble. Deciding to be brave I approach the counter and ask the young girl what is the mcDouble? She then tells me it is a doulble cheeseburger with only one slice of cheese. What is cheese that expensive that they have to charge $.20 more for a slice. So we order the mcdouble to save that money. LOL. Well I have to say it is my new favorite. It is amazing the taste of the beef without the second piece of cheese. Then after enjoying our sandwich we head to the counter for dessert. Now I don't understand how they can sell sundaes, ice cream cones, two apple pies and three cookies for $1.00 but the milkshakes are now $2, 2.40 and 3.00. The McFlurry is now $2.40 what is the deal does oreo cost $1.40. I don't think so. Well my kids have learned it is a $1.00 sandwich and a $1.00 dessert or they don't eat. LOL. I will definetly go back to McD's I can never get enough of there fries, burgers and caramel sundaes but I will remember to take more money since it seems everything is going up and portions are going down. Even the fries have gone up now they are $1.35, 1.50 and 1.85. The dollar menu is definetly shrinking. I wonder if prices are different in other states for McDonald's?

Famulari's Pizzeria

Tonight we braved the brand new pizza restaurant called Famulari's Pizzeria. I don't know about you but I am always afraid to try something unknown, unheard of by our friends and new in town but off we went. Well boy was it worth the trip. The pizza was superb, the owner super friendly and we ended up eating the first pizza and ordering a second. The owners are three guys from Wisconsin who are fulfilling there dream of owning a business. They have New York Style and Chicago Style Pizza along with Pasta and Sandwiches. My children asked for brochures and are taking them to school to help spread the word about the new place to eat. We will definetly be going back and bringing lots of friends. One thing about our area, if you don't get lots of business right after opening, you don't last more than six months. This is the third restaurant in less than two years at this location so we sure hope they make it. Check out there website at www.famspizza.com

Denny's

You got to love the restaurant Denny's. Tuesdays and Saturday nights the kids eat free. So off to our new Denny's we go with my Aunt and Uncle. There has to be about ten people in the whole restaurant. Our waitress has two tables, us and one other with two people. Yes, there is seven of us but PLEASE how hard is it to wait two tables. We had to ask for refills ten times and only got one the entire time. My order got skipped completely and arrived when everyone was finishing up and she had the audacity to act like my twelve and eleven year old sons were way too old for kids meals. This is after seeing my 12 year old carry in his blankets and teddy bear. (That is a different blog.) Does she really think a child who is too old for the kids meal would be seen dead with those items. Now grant it my middle child is 150lbs and 5'6" already but hey he is big for his age. The only mature one of my kids is my 10 year old daughter who wanted to order off the adult menu but we would not let her. The boys order the Rocket Ship cup and here she is sipping Cappucinno and they don't question her age. She is over 5' and weighs 110lbs. I just don't understand it. This was our fourth time at this restaurant and the visit on Friday November 28th ended in our meal being half off. After being there over an hour waiting on the order to even come to the table. Should have been free but we had already created a scene so we let it go especially knowing we would be coming back. Guess it won't be better the next time but you can bet we will go back. However, the next time I will complain even if hubby refuses too.

Gotta Love Sick Days

Boy do I love when one of my kids is sick. I get to stay in bed later, miss the bus and deal with a whiny, sick child all day. Lucky for me it was my daughter. Then she gets up at 11am asking "Where are we going to eat?" Wait eat, your sick, that makes you unable to go out to eat. But she is quick with her replies "I have to go out since I have to go to the Doctor so therefore we get to eat out." Okay I give in off to eat and the Doctor. After eating, doctor, Walgreen's and waiting for the Rx I feel sick. LOL. She really got excited when the Doc told her no school til Wednesday. I wanted to cry. There goes my peaceful day again. Tomorrow she will be asking for food again. I am waiting to see which one of my two boys will be "playing sick" tomorrow just because Sis is home again. My guess will be my middle child who right before going to bed asked "Are my cheeks still red?" Like what does this mean he has a fever but no symptoms. Kids you gotta love them. My oldest just pulled a tooth out of his mouth and asked "Does this mean I get to stay home now too?" NO! Off to bed so I can have a break. Next thing I know hubby will be sick and no one will be leaving the house but me. Like it wasn't bad enough that they just had five days off for Thanksgiving break.
